FlyBase

FlyBase is dedicated to studying molecular and genetic data of Drosophilidae family. The most well-known member of this family is Drosophila Melanogaster. Flybase is produced by a consortium of researchers from biology and computer science backgrounds. Flybase contains the following information specific to the drosphoilidae family:

  • genes and mutant alleles
  • details of various genome projects
  • bibliographic citations
  • information on protein expression and function
  • information about natural and engineered transposons of drosophila and chromosomal aberrations along with list of genomic clones
  • archives providing significant images of Drosophila's anatomy and developmental stages
  • molecular mapping information about Drosophila's anatomy, cytology and genetics
  • details of various genome projects on Drosophila including contact information of people working on the Drosophila genome
  • several annotation and analytical tools
  • Flybase provides the following tools:

  • Query Builder allows easy access to information on Flybase through a simple yet powerful user interface. Both simple and complex queries can be built using Query Builder.
  • Cytosearch provides maps of Dmel genome with sequence and mapping data.
  • Apollo is a genome annotation view and editor which was used by FlyBase biologists to construct Release 3 annotations. Apollo is a Java application which you can download and run from your desktop.
  • Term Link allows user to search controlled vocabularies used by FlyBase.
  • Image Browser provides various images and animations of Drosophila’s anatomy and developmental stages.
  • GBrowse is a advanced tool for extracting genomic information.
  • In addition there are many other useful tools such as quick search, advanced search, coordinate converter, etc.
